Didube-Chugureti: where to live in Tbilisi
Didube-Chugureti spans the left bank from the gentrifying historic quarters near Marjanishvili to the transport hub of Didube and the new-build massifs of Dighomi.
It mixes central character cheaper than the right bank with practical, transport-first living and modern family housing. Covers Chugureti, Marjanishvili, Didube and Dighomi Massive.
What it is good for
Range. At one end, central, artsy, walkable Chugureti and Marjanishvili by the metro and the river; at the other, the Didube transport hub and affordable new family builds in Dighomi. You can pick centrality and character, or modern housing and value.
Transport
Metro runs through the area (Marjanishvili, 300 Aragveli, Didube), and Didube is the city's main intercity marshrutka station. Connectivity is excellent; the right bank and Old Town are a short walk or one stop from the central quarters.
Parks and greenery
Greenery is not the area's strong side — it is streets, squares and hubs. For walks, the Mtkvari embankment is at hand; for a full sports zone with a lake, head toward Vake-Saburtalo. Dighomi's new complexes add courtyard greenery.
How it feels to live here
Two moods: the central quarters (Chugureti, Marjanishvili) are lively, artsy and gentrifying, with contrasts and construction; Didube is utilitarian and noisy by the hub; Dighomi is calmer, newer and family-oriented. Pick by whether you want centre-and-character or new-and-affordable.
Rent prices
Guideline figures for June 2025 (re-check). The central quarters are cheaper than the right bank but rising fast (Chugureti posted the city's highest growth in 2025); Didube and Dighomi sit in the affordable range. Check specifics on the district pages.
Development and new builds
Reconstruction and gentrification of historic stock near Marjanishvili; mass family new builds in Dighomi; utilitarian stock around Didube. A wide spread from restored historic flats to modern complexes.
Who it suits
Didube-Chugureti suits a wide range: young expats and creatives for the central quarters, frequent intercity travellers for Didube, practical-budget families for Dighomi. It is the wrong pick for anyone who wants settled, uniform prestige and quiet greenery (that is Vake).
Didube-Chugureti is a varied left-bank slice: artsy central quarters, a major transport hub and affordable new family builds. Choose by quarter — Marjanishvili and Chugureti for character, Didube for logistics, Dighomi for modern value. See the district pages for detail.
