Batumi: where to live
Batumi is a Black Sea resort and Georgia's second city: a seafront boulevard, towers of new builds, palms and mild winters.
This page is a city overview and an entry point into the district tree; every macro-area and quarter has its own write-up. The city splits into the central seafront, the everyday inner districts and the green coastal suburbs.
What it is good for
Batumi's main draw is the sea and the resort lifestyle: a long boulevard, beaches, cafes and a relaxed coastal pace, with mild winters and warm summers. For those who want to live by the sea, work remotely and enjoy the coast, it is the obvious Georgian choice.
Transport
Batumi is compact and walkable in the centre; there is no metro — buses and cheap taxis cover the city, and a car helps for the strung-out coast and suburbs. The centre is on foot, the suburbs a ride away.
Parks and sport
The seafront boulevard is the anchor — a long promenade for walking, running, cycling and skating by the sea, with parks and beach along it. North of the city, Green Cape and the Batumi Botanical Garden add subtropical greenery and hillside trails. For sport by the sea and in nature, Batumi is strong.
Climate and seasonality
The climate is humid subtropical: warm, wet and green, with mild winters and hot, humid summers. Unlike Tbilisi, Batumi is seasonal: busy and pricey in summer, much quieter and cheaper off-season. Rain is frequent and the greenery lush.
The rental market
Rent in Batumi is strongly seasonal and short-term-rental-driven near the sea: the central seafront and new boulevard are pricey in summer and looser in winter, while the inner districts and suburbs are steadier and better value year-round. See the district pages for specifics (prices are dated).
Who it suits
Batumi suits those who want the sea, mild winters and a resort lifestyle: remote workers, seasonal residents, investors, those who love the coast. It is the wrong pick for those who want maximum work, infrastructure and an even, non-seasonal big-city life (that is Tbilisi).
